HL research - our view on this fund

Mark Dampier Nick McLeod-Clarke, co-manager of the BlackRock UK Income Fund, has stepped down from fund management with immediate effect. He will take an extended period of leave to recover from poor health. He is not likely to return to manage this fund, but could return to manage money for institutional clients, according to BlackRock.

Adam Avigdori will take over lead management of the fund; having been co-manager since November 2009 and a member of the team since 2008. There will be no changes to the fund's existing investment objective or management style. We, therefore, believe existing investors do not need to take any action should the fund still meet their requirements.

The BlackRock UK Income Fund does not currently feature on the Wealth 150 list of our favourite funds across the major sectors. Though the fund's cautious approach means it has offered periods of shelter in the past, such as during the credit crisis in 2008, performance has since been disappointing and our analysis suggests stock selection has been poor in recent years. We are not considering the fund for inclusion at this time.
