HL research - our view on this fund

Mark Dampier JP Morgan has announced that Ian Henderson, the lead manager of the JPM Natural Resources Fund, will be stepping down from the day-to-day management of the fund on 31 January 2012 after almost 20 years at the helm. Full responsibility for the fund will pass to Neil Gregson, who joined the group in September 2010.

Neil Gregson has been working closely with Ian Henderson for some time as part of a succession-planning strategy. He began his career in 1984, holding various positions at mining and resource companies before moving to Credit Suisse in 1990, where he was Head of Emerging Markets and also managed several gold and resources funds.

He has a similar investment approach to Ian Henderson. Over the last year, he has become familiar with the underlying holdings in the portfolio and has already made his mark on the fund, so there are unlikely to be any major changes following the handover. Ian Henderson will remain a key member of the team in an advisory capacity until March 2013.

We do not believe investors need to take any immediate action. Neil Gregson has a great deal of experience in the resources sector and we are due to meet him over the coming weeks. If our views on the fund change following the meeting, we will contact investors. The fund remains on the Wealth 150 list of our favourite funds in each sector.
