Fidelity is changing the name of their Sterling Bond Fund to the Fidelity Strategic Bond Fund on 22 January 2010. Fidelity believes the new name will better reflect the way the fund is managed. There will be no other changes to the fund. It will continue to be managed by Ian Spreadbury who will adopt the same investment approach.
The fund already adopts a flexible strategy investing across a wide range of corporate bonds including the higher quality investment grade bonds, the higher risk high yield bonds and also government bonds. It is also not restricted to investing in bonds issued by UK companies and can invest further afield into other overseas bonds.
We do not believe the name change should cause investors any concern and the fund will aim to outperform its peers over the longer term.
