Jupiter North American Equities – new launch

By Meera Patel | Thu 07 January 2010

Jupiter has recently launched its North American Equities Fund, making the skills of the manager, Sebastian Radcliffe available to a wider overseas audience. It is an offshore fund which is available to UK investors, although please remember that an offshore fund does not attract the same regulatory protections as an onshore equivalent.

Sebastian Radcliffe also manages the Jupiter North American Income Fund and both funds will be managed along similar lines, although this new fund has the ability to use wider investment tools which may increase risk. Additionally, the new fund will not have a requirement to deliver an income.

Sebastian Radcliffe combines economic analysis with individual company research. As the US is the largest economy in the world, it is difficult to ignore the wider picture as what happens in the US can sometimes have a large impact on the rest of the world.

This is the starting point of his analysis. Once he has identified strong themes he then looks to identify what he believes to be the best companies from those themes or sectors. Essentially he is looking for companies with strong business models, and those operating in an environment where they have a cost advantage or are market leaders in their field.

Although the outlook for the US economy has improved this year, few fund managers outperform the S&P 500 Index on a consistent basis. Sebastian Radcliffe’s track record managing the Jupiter North American Income Fund is commendable, but we would like to see how this new fund performs. It is therefore not currently on the Wealth 150 list of our favourite funds in each sector.
