Power systems developer Rolls-Royce has won its second contract in two years from the Gas Authority India Limited (GAIL).

The UK company has won a $90m contract to supply four RB211 packages to be used on the 500 kilometre Vijaipur-Dadri Bawana pipeline running from Vijaipur to Dadri.

The award of the contract follows on from a $130m contract from GAIL in 2008 for six RB211 packages.

All 10 RB211 sets will drive RFBB36 gas compressors designed and manufactured by Rolls-Royce. When all the units are installed they will increase the flow of gas along the lines to help to power industries such as fertiliser, steel and petrochemical. Residential customers of GAIL will also benefit.

The RB211 gas generators will be manufactured at Rolls-Royce's facility in Quebec, Canada, while packaging of the units and the manufacture of the compressors will take place in Ohio, USA.

Deliveries for the latest contract are scheduled for the first quarter of 2011.
