Important notes

This article isn’t personal advice. If you’re not sure whether an investment is right for you please seek advice. If you choose to invest the value of your investment will rise and fall, so you could get back less than you put in.

Witan Investment Trust will split its shares in a five-for-one stock split on 28 May 2019. That means each share held by investors will be divided into five shares. This doesn’t affect the value of your investment in the trust though, nor will it affect your rights as a shareholder.

How does a stock split work?

Let’s says you own 100 shares at £10 each, so you’ve got £1,000 of shares. After a five-for-one stock split you’ll still own £1,000 of shares but you’ll now have 500 shares worth £2 each instead.

This is just an example and doesn’t reflect Witan Investment Trust’s current share price or take into account any normal fluctuations in the share price.

To work out how many shares in Witan Investment Trust you’ll own after the split, simply multiply the current number of shares you own by five.

Why do investment trusts split shares?

There’s nothing unusual about stock splits. A trust’s board may decide to split the shares so there are more of them and they’re cheaper. This makes it easier to buy and sell them, particularly for regular savers, while not affecting the value of existing investors’ shares.
