Pay by Bank

Pay by Bank is a fast and safe way to add money to your Hargreaves Lansdown account. This is done by providing a secure link to your banking app or website for instant payments.

We have partnered with Ecospend, a Financial Conduct Authority authorised payment institution, to offer this service.

What Open Banking is

This is a new payment method where you safely transfer money to us directly from your bank account, through an authorised third-party provider.

You only use this payment method when you choose ‘Pay by Bank’ to pay into your Hargreaves Lansdown account.

Open Banking is a safe way to pay and is regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA).

Who are Ecospend

Ecospend are the third-party provider for this new payment method and are an authorised payment institution regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority. You can find further information about them, including their FCA Registration number, on the Ecospend website.

Why we collect your personal data

To allow Hargreaves Lansdown to collect the payment, we will pass the following information about you to Ecospend: your payment reference number and the amount you want to pay — this may be included as part of your payment reference number, but it will not be shared for any other reason. This will only be passed on with your permission. No other information about you will be shared with Ecospend.

How we share your data

We share your data with Ecospend using an API (Application Programming Interface). This is a secure way to share details without having to reveal any of your information to anyone other than Ecospend and your bank.

How we use your data

Ecospend will use your data to make a payment request to your bank. They will fill in the payment reference and amount, so that you do not have to input these. You need to sign in to your online banking or mobile app to approve your payment. Your bank will then action the payment request. Your password and sign-in details will only be shared with your bank.

If you do not want to share your data using Open Banking, you do not have to use Open Banking and share your data with Ecospend to make a payment. You can choose another way to pay Hargreaves Lansdown.

How you give your consent

By confirming your payment and selecting ‘continue’, you are consenting to:

  • this policy
  • giving Ecospend your permission to start the payment directly from your bank to Hargreaves Lansdown
  • giving your permission to be transferred to your bank to make the payment

You will be redirected to your bank or building society to securely sign in and approve the payment.

The security of your data with third-party service providers

All our third-party service providers are required to take appropriate security measures to protect your personal information in line with our policies. We only permit them to process your personal data:

  • for specified purposes and in accordance with our instructions
  • with our agreement

How your data is stored safely

The data is stored in an encrypted format and certain fields, such as the payment reference, are further encrypted.

Our third-party service providers will only process your personal information on our instructions or with our agreement, and where they have agreed to:

  • treat the information confidentially
  • keep it secure

Active Savings Easy Bank Transfer Prize Draw - Terms and Conditions

1. Subject to these terms and conditions, if you pay any amount into your Active Savings Account using ‘Easy Bank Transfer’ between 00:00 on 1 June 2024 and 23:59 on 30 June 2024 (inclusive) and this payment completes, we will automatically enter you into our prize draw (the “Draw”) with a chance to win a cash prize of £5,000.

2. To be eligible for the Draw, you must:
a) be 18 or older
b) be a resident in the UK
c) not be an employee or worker of any Hargreaves Lansdown group company or a member of any such worker or employee’s immediate family or household
d) successfully pay any amount of money into your Active Savings Account using ‘Easy Bank Transfer’ during the stipulated time period; and e) comply with these terms and conditions

3. Upon paying into your Active Savings Account using the ‘Easy Bank Transfer’ method, you will be automatically entered into the Draw. No further action by you is required.

4. You must log in to your HL account and use the ‘Easy Bank Transfer’ method to top up your Active Savings Account to be eligible for the Draw. Any manual bank transfers or top ups using the ‘Easy Bank Transfer’ to other HL accounts will not be valid.

5. Not all banks are included in the ‘Easy Bank Transfer’ process and we accept no responsibility or liability if your bank is not available through the Easy Bank Transfer service.

6. You may top up your account using the ‘Easy Bank Transfer’ method as many times as you wish during the specified time period. However, you will only be entered into the Draw once. Only one entry per client is permitted.

7. Your Active Savings Account must remain open until 31 July 2024 to be eligible for the cash prize to be paid. If the winner selected in the Draw closes their Active Savings Account by the time the cash prize is due to be paid, the Draw will be done again.

8. You can opt out of the Draw at any time by contacting our Helpdesk on 0117 980 9995.

9. The winner will be chosen by random by 31st July 2024.

10. The winner will be notified using the contact details we have on record at the time of the winner being selected, and payment of the cash prize made by 31 July 2024.

11. The cash prize will be added to the winner’s Hargreaves Lansdown Active Savings Account Cash hub.

12. Hargreaves Lansdown shall accept no liability to the extent legally possible in the event of harm or loss or technical, legal or validity issues relating to the use or exercise or redemption of the prize, in particular due to problems outside of our control.

13. Please note we are required to make available information that indicates that a valid award took place. To comply with this obligation, we will send the surname and county of the prize winner to anyone requesting this information. If you object to any or all of your surname and county being published or made available, please notify us by calling 0117 980 9995. Please note, we must still provide the winner’s details to the Advertising Standards Authority on request.

14. Our decision regarding any aspect of the Draw is final and binding and no correspondence will be entered into about it.

15. Participants are deemed to have accepted and agreed to be bound by these terms and conditions upon entry. We reserve the right to refuse entry, or refuse to award the Prize to anyone in breach of these terms and conditions.

16. We reserve the right to hold void, cancel, suspend, or amend this Draw by providing reasonable notice where it becomes necessary to do so.

17. This Draw will be governed by English law, and entrants to the Draw submit to the jurisdiction of the English courts.

18. This Draw is provided by Hargreaves Lansdown Savings Limited, which is a limited company registered in England & Wales with the company number 8355960, whose registered office is 1 College Square South, Anchor Road, Bristol, BS1 5HL. References in these terms and conditions to “our”, "us" or "we" are to Hargreaves Lansdown Savings Limited.
