How do currency ETCs work?

Most currency ETCs follow a currency index by using a type of derivative called a futures contract to track an exchange rate. The ETC enters into an agreement to exchange a certain amount of currency at a fixed rate at a time in the future. If the exchange rate increases in the interim, the value of the derivative does too. Futures-based currency ETCs are complex investments.
