Why hasn't my dividend been credited to my account yet?

Here are some reasons why you might not see a dividend that you're expecting:

Overseas dividend payments take longer

If you have overseas shares, payments may arrive in your account a few working days after the dividend payment date.

Dividend payment dates vary from company to company

You can check a company’s dividend payment dates on our website or the HL app, in the company’s share details page. You can find this by searching for the company on our shares page or using the Search tool in the HL app.

You didn't qualify for the most recent dividend payment

To receive a dividend, you must hold the shares on the day before the ‘ex-dividend date’. The ex-dividend date is the first day the shares trade without the dividend included in the price.

So, if the ex-dividend date was Tuesday 20 April, only investors who bought their shares on Monday 19 April (or before) would receive the dividend.

You can find a company’s ex-dividend date on our website or the HL app, on the company’s share details page. You can find this by searching for the company on our shares page or using the Search tool in the HL app.

The company isn't paying dividends this term

Companies can choose whether or not to pay out their profits as dividends. In tougher times companies sometimes reduce the amount of their dividend or stop paying a dividend altogether.

You can check a company’s dividend history on our website or the HL app, on the company’s share details page. You can find this by searching for the company on our shares page or using the Search tool in the HL app.
