Our Research team has decades of experience and spends thousands of hours each year crunching the numbers.

But when looking at a fund’s performance potential, data can only tell half the story. Our Research team also dig deep into funds’ processes and management team with the goal to unearth what’s really driving performance.

Emma Wall

Head of Investment Analysis and Research

Skills, competence and experience: Emma is Head of Investment Analysis and Research. She is responsible for developing and implementing the investment processes for Hargreaves Lansdown Asset Management, including the Wealth Shortlist. Her team provides strategic asset allocation, and analysis on equities, funds and investment trusts, for HL platform, workplace and advised clients.

Emma also leads the Senior Research Team, which reviews the Wealth Shortlist funds against parameters designed to flag potential risks to clients. She reports to the Distribution Investment Oversight Committee.

Emma joined HL in April 2019 from Morningstar where she provided investment news, views and analysis to investors across the UK, Australia, Canada and India. Prior to joining Morningstar in July 2013 Emma spent six years as a financial journalist at the Daily and Sunday Telegraph.

Kate Marshall

Lead Investment Analyst

Skills, competence and experience: Kate is Lead Investment Analyst at HL, and is responsible for the Asian and emerging markets fund sectors. She leads a team of Investment Analysts, and as a member of the Senior Research Team also provides oversight and challenge to fund selection across all sectors on the Wealth Shortlist, and votes on all proposals. She's also involved in compiling investment portfolios for HL's advisory team, and is a senior member of the Investment department.

Kate has eleven years' experience in financial services and joined our investment research team in 2011. She has a first class degree in Business Studies and has completed the Investment Management Certificate.

Joseph Hill

Senior Investment Analyst

Skills, competence and experience: Joseph joined HL in 2017 as part of our graduate scheme, before joining the Research team in August 2019. He is part of the team that analyses and selects funds for the Wealth Shortlist. His sector responsibilities are Bonds, UK Equity Income and North American equities.

As a member of the Senior Research Team, he also provides oversight and challenge to fund selection across all sectors on the Wealth Shortlist, and votes on all proposals.

He has a keen interest in global economics and how issues such as fiscal and monetary policy can impact our clients' investments. Joseph holds the Diploma in Regulated Financial Planning, the Investment Management Certificate, and is currently undertaking the CFA programme.

Josef Licsauer

Investment Analyst

Skills, competence and experience: Josef joined HL in 2016 after obtaining a first class degree in Business and Management from the University of the West of England. He joined the Research team in July 2020 and is responsible for analysing funds and investment trusts in the Europe, Japan, Technology & Telecoms, Property and Specialist sectors. He has a particular interest in Japanese culture and is passionate about sustainable and ethical investing and how this can impact our clients.

Josef has completed the Investment Management Certificate.

Alexander Watkins

Passive Investment Analyst

Skills, competence and experience: Alex joined HL in 2018 after studying a master's degree in Geology at Southampton University. He then joined the research team in July 2020 as a Passive Investment Analyst, and is responsible for analysing tracker funds and ETFs for HL clients. In his role, he proposes passive fund additions to and removals from the Wealth Shortlist, and monitors existing selections.

While having a keen interest in understanding global markets he also enjoys learning from fund managers and industry professionals who can provide new insight to products and markets. He holds the Investment Management Certificate, the certificate in ESG investing and is currently undertaking the CFA programme.
