The Investment Research team
Our Research team has decades of experience and spends thousands of hours each year crunching the numbers.
But when looking at a fund’s performance potential, data can only tell half the story. Our Research team also dig deep into funds’ processes and management team with the goal to unearth what’s really driving performance.
Meet the research team:
Emma is Head of Investment Analysis. She heads up the Research team who select funds for the Wealth Shortlist and provide analysis across funds and investment trusts for HL clients. Emma is responsible for developing and implementing the investment process for the Wealth Shortlist. She votes on proposals across all fund sectors.
Emma also leads the Senior Research Team, which reviews the Shortlist funds against parameters designed to help flag potential risks to clients. She reports to the Distribution Investment Oversight Committee.
Emma joined HL in April 2019 from Morningstar where she provided investment news, views and analysis to investors across the UK, Australia, Canada and India. Prior to joining Morningstar in July 2013 Emma spent six years as a financial journalist at the Daily and Sunday Telegraph.
Kate is a Senior Investment Analyst at HL, and responsible for the Asian, emerging markets and European fund sectors. As a member of the Senior Research Team she also provides oversight and challenge to fund selection across all sectors on the Wealth Shortlist, and votes on all proposals. She’s also involved in compiling investment portfolios for HL's advisory team, and is a senior member of the Investment department.
Kate has 11 years' experience in financial services and joined our investment research team in 2011. She has a first-class degree in Business Studies and has completed the Investment Management Certificate.
Tom is a Senior Investment Analyst at HL, and responsible for the mixed asset sectors, as well as providing support for fixed income analysis. Tom has 14 years of financial services experience including 12 years’ fund research experience.
Prior to joining HL in December 2020, he spent seven years at Australian wealth management group BT where he conducted research and oversight of funds across asset classes, including equity, fixed income, multi-asset, property, infrastructure, and alternatives.
Before BT, Tom spent six years at Standard & Poor’s, joining its index business before moving to its fund research area. Tom is a Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst.
Dominic joined HL in June 2014 after studying economics at university. He’s part of the team responsible for analysing and proposing funds for the Wealth Shortlist and writing analysis for HL clients. He’s responsible for the Responsible Investment and UK Growth sectors.
He’s passionate about ESG and sustainability, and enjoys learning from fund managers and other industry experts who are dedicated to making the world a cleaner, greener place and passing that knowledge on to our clients. Dominic works with different parts of the business, such as HL Fund Managers, advice and workplace, to push the ESG agenda. Dominic holds the Investment Management Certificate.
Joseph joined HL in 2017 as part of our graduate scheme, before joining the Research team in August 2019. He is part of the team that analyses and selects funds for the Wealth Shortlist. His sector responsibilities are Bonds and North America equities.
He has a keen interest in global economics and how issues such as fiscal and monetary policy can impact our clients’ investments. Joseph holds the Diploma in Regulated Financial Planning, the Investment Management Certificate and is currently undertaking the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) programme.
Henry joined HL in December 2020 and is responsible for the UK small and mid-sized companies sectors, and Global funds.
Henry joined HL from chartered financial planners Forrester-Hyde where he provided fund research, due diligence and analysis for their investment portfolios.
As well as conducting fund analysis at Forrester-Hyde, Henry also sat on the firm’s Investment Committee and produced client updates on funds and portfolios. Henry joined Forrester-Hyde in 2019, after graduating from the University of East Anglia with a first-class degree in Economics.
Josef joined HL in 2016 after obtaining a first-class degree in Business and Management from the University of the West of England. He joined the Research team in July 2020 and is responsible for analysing funds and investment trusts in the Japan, Technology & Telecoms, Property and Specialist sectors.
He has a particular interest in Japanese culture and is passionate about sustainable and ethical investing and how this can impact our clients. Josef has completed the Investment Management Certificate.
Alex joined HL in 2018 after completing a master’s degree in Geology at Southampton University. He joined the research team in July 2020 as a Passive Investment Analyst, and is responsible for analysing tracker funds and ETFs for HL clients. He proposes passive fund additions and removals to the Wealth Shortlist and monitors existing selections.
Alex has a keen interest in understanding global markets and enjoys learning from fund managers and industry professionals who can provide new insight to products and markets. He’s currently undertaking the CFA programme.
