Nick Train and Michael Lindsell have managed lots of funds over the years. They've regularly beaten their benchmarks over their long careers. Our analysis suggests stock-picking has been the main driver of returns.
Since the launch of their Global Equity fund in 2011, performance has been helped by investments in the consumer goods sector. This has been one of the strongest performing sectors over recent years.
The team's fairly conservative investment approach means some of their best performance has been during falling markets. When the market's got tough that's where they've often added the most value. In the rising markets of recent years though, the fund's also done exceptionally well. This doesn't indicate how it'll do in the future though.
