NatWest (Q3 Results): strong beat, guidance raised

NatWest delivered a big profit beat over the third quarter, with management confident enough to raise full-year guidance.

NatWest reported third-quarter income of £4.3bn (£4.1bn expected), up 15.7% year-on-year, driven by loan growth and improving margins. Net interest margin rose from 2.18% to 2.37%.

Operating profit rose 30.4% to £2.2bn (£1.8bn expected), supported by strong top-line growth and slightly lower costs. Impairments were better than expected, and default levels remain low.

The group’s CET1 ratio, a key measure of financial strength, was 14.2% at the period end (13-14% target range).

Full-year income, excluding notable items, is now expected to land around £16.3bn (previously £16.0bn).

The shares rose 3.5% in early trading.
