(Sharecast News) - Economic activity in the Chicago area picked up more than expected in December, according to data released on Tuesday.

The MNI Chicago business barometer rose to 43.5 from 36.3 in November, coming in above expectations for a reading of 39.8.

A reading above 50.0 indicates expansion, while a reading below signals contraction.
