(Sharecast News) - DFS Furniture has named Elizabeth McMeikan as its new chair, with the consumer brand veteran set to succeed Steve Johnson in 2027.

The furniture retailer said on Friday that McMeikan would join the board as an independent non-executive director and chair designate with immediate effect following an externally led search, as part of its ongoing succession planning.

McMeikan has extensive experience across consumer-facing businesses and has chaired AIM-listed soft drinks maker Nichols since 2023. She is also senior independent director at Custodian Property Income REIT.

Her previous board roles include positions at Unite Group, Dalata Hotel Group and McBride, while earlier in her career she held marketing and sales roles at Colgate-Palmolive and a range of commercial positions at Tesco.

Current chair Johnson said McMeikan's appointment came at an "exciting time" for the group, pointing to its recently reported rise in profits, record market share and improved operational performance.

Chief executive Tim Stacey said her public company experience as both a non-executive director and chair was "ideally suited" to DFS as it implements the next stage of its strategy.

DFS shares were up 1% at 146p by 0816 BST.
