(Sharecast News) - Goldman Sachs has announced plans to hire an additional 500 staff in Birmingham and said it will commit "several billion pounds" into UK tech.
The US investment bank, which opened an office in the West Midlands hub in 2022, said in a statement on Thursday that it intends to double its current workforce there to over 1,000 employees over the coming years.
Goldman employs over 6,000 people across the UK, with its other London office being the firm's largest in Europe and the headquarters for Goldman Sachs International. The bank's Birmingham office houses its technology functions.
"We are increasing our financing activities to critical parts of the economy where we see substantial opportunities to deploy capital, including in AI and digital infrastructure, with several billion pounds ready to be committed," a company spokesperson said in a statement.
Also on Thursday, US banking peer JPMorgan Chase unveiled plans to build a new headquarters in Canary Wharf, which it estimates will contribute 9.9bn to the UK economy, creating more than 7,800 jobs across construction and other local industries.
