(Sharecast News) - HSBC announced on Monday that it will hire more than 100 artificial intelligence specialists as part of plans to expand the adoption of AI across its global operations.
The banking giant said that the new roles would support a Global AI Centre of Excellence in Singapore, due to launch in the second half of 2026. The centre will develop AI capabilities that can be scaled across HSBC's international network.
New hires will work alongside chief AI officer David Rice and teams including wealth management and global payments solutions.
HSBC said it aimed to build expertise in natural language processing, data science, AI governance and human-centred design, working with educational institutions and government bodies in Singapore.
The centre will initially focus on improving conversations across customers' wealth journeys, introducing agentic treasury solutions and developing AI-enabled digital payments.
HSBC said it was integrating AI throughout its business to become a simpler, more responsive and better-connected bank, while providing employees with the tools and training needed to use the technology. It stressed that AI deployment would retain strong governance, human oversight and accountability.
Group chief executive Georges Elhedery said: "The new AI Centre of Excellence in Singapore will help drive our global AI vision - to empower our colleagues to use AI to create a personalised experience for each customer, deliver it safely, in real time and at scale, while keeping human judgement, decision-making and accountability at the core."
HSBC shares were up 0.2% at 1,555.6p by 1322 BST.
