(Sharecast News) - Media group Informa has named former Thomson Reuters Group veteran Tom Glocer as its next chair.
American-born Glocer, who is currently lead independent director at Morgan Stanley and Merck & Co Inc, will join on 1 October as a non-executive director before becoming chair in 2027. He is replacing John Rishton, who announced in January he was stepping down to take up the same role at cigarette maker Imperial Brands. Rishton spent nine years with Informa, the last five of which as chair.
Glocer, 66, worked as a lawyer at a New York law firm before joining Reuters Group, the predecessor of Thomson Reuters, in 1993. He was named chief executive in 2001, a role he held until he left the media giant a decade later. He also oversaw the acquisition of the British company by Canada's Thomson Corporation in 2008.
Stephen Carter, Informa chief executive, said Glocer's "experience, knowledge and background in technology, data and international markets will be invaluable to us as we continue to pursue growth and expansion".
Glocer added: "I am delighted to be joining the board. Informa is a market leader in business-to-business, with tremendous potential for continuing growth and expansion."
As at 1145 BST, shares in Informa - a specialist in B2B events and academic publishing - were largely unchanged, at 882.07p.
