(Sharecast News) - Renishaw has appointed the former finance lead of Dyson and Smiths Group as its new chief financial officer, ending a search to replace its long-running CFO that began eight months ago.

The company, which produces manufacturing technologies, analytical instruments and medical devices, has been looking for a successor for group finance director Allen Robert, who announced his retirement in August after having been in the position since 1980.

John Shipsey has now been appointed as CFO and executive director with effect from 13 April, bringing a "deep understanding of the industrials sector and its associated performance drivers", according to interim chair David Grant.

Shipsey has undertaken the CFO role in various listed and private companies, including 12 years at Dyson Limited, five years at Smiths Group and two years at Featurespace.

"He has a strong track record of leading high-performing finance functions, and we look forward to him strengthening both the board and executive leadership team," Grant said.

Meanwhile, Grant himself has been named a permanent chair for up to two years while it continues to search for a long-term appointment, whom it expects to find by 2028.
