(Sharecast News) - Wall Street trading got off to a positive start on Tuesday after the S&P 500 and Nasdaq wrapped up the previous session at fresh record highs.

As of 1445 BST, the Dow Jones Industrial Average opened 0.22% firmer at 46,799.06, while the S&P 500 advanced 0.15% to 6,750.11, and the Nasdaq Composite came out of the gate 0.14% firmer at 22,972.75.

The Dow opened 104.09 points higher on Tuesday, more than reversing losses recorded in the previous session.

Stocks were in the green at the open as the Federal Government shutdown entered its second week, having only a limited impact on sentiment, with investors looking past delays to key macro data, including the September non-farm payrolls report, originally scheduled for release last Friday.

Efforts to end the shutdown stalled again on Monday after the Senate failed for a fifth time to pass a House-backed funding bill that would have kept operations running through 21 November. The vote fell short of the 60-vote threshold required to advance the legislation, with senators largely split along party lines. At least eight Democrats would need to join Republicans in order to move the bill forward.

Donald Trump reiterated his criticism of Democrats, stating he was "happy to work with the Democrats on their Failed Healthcare Policies, or anything else, but first they must allow our Government to re-open". Earlier in the day, Trump had suggested negotiations were ongoing and showing progress, though Democrats have continued to push for any short-term funding deal to include an extension of enhanced Obamacare tax credits.

"We have a negotiation going on right now with the Democrats that could lead to very good things," said Trump. "And I'm talking about good things with regard to healthcare."

However, that was later denied by Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, who said : "THIS ISN'T TRUE", adding that "if Republicans are finally ready to sit down and get something done on health care for American families, Democrats will be there - ready to make it happen".

On the macro front, no major data points were scheduled for release on Tuesday, but Federal Reserve bankers Raphael Bostic, Michelle Bowman, Stephen Miran, and Neel Kashkari will all deliver speeches throughout the course of the day.

Things were also quiet on the earnings front, with investors looking ahead to next week and the beginning of Q3 earnings season.
