(Sharecast News) - Wall Street trading got off to a mixed start on Thursday as market participants digested quarterly earnings from Nvidia and Salesforce.

As of 1525 GMT, the Dow Jones Industrial Average was up 0.35% at 49,656.74, while the S&P 500 shed 0.26% to 6,927.99 and the Nasdaq Composite came out of the gate 0.84% lower at 22,958.50.

The Dow opened 174.59 points higher on Thursday, extending gains recorded in the previous session.

Nvidia headed south in early action despite reporting a fourthquarter earnings and revenue beat overnight, while Salesforce shares traded higher even as the software group issued underwhelming fiscal 2027 revenue projections.

In terms of Thursday's earnings, Warner Bros Discovery also posted quarterly numbers, reporting fourthquarter revenue of $9.5bn, down 6% yearonyear but ahead of expectations, and a 49% narrowed net loss of $252m.

Dell Technologies will report its latest quarterly figures after the close.

On the macro front, Americans lined up for unemployment benefits at an accelerated pace in the week ended 21 February, according to the Department of Labor, pointing to a stillstable labour market, with low levels of firing offsetting slower hiring

Initial jobless claims rose by 4,000 to 212,000, coming in below expectations of 215,000 and remaining well under the averages seen over the past two years, while continuing claims, a proxy for overall unemployment, fell by 31,000 to 1.83m - one of the lowest readings in around ten months. The four-week moving average, which aims to strip out week-to-week volatility, came to 220,250 - an increase of 750 from the previous week's upwardly revised average.

Still to come, the Kansas Federal Reserve's February manufacturing index will follow at 1600 GMT.
