(Sharecast News) - The UK should introduce a ban on almost all gambling advertising to protect public health, a cross-party group of peers has urged, prompting fury from the lobby group for bookmakers and casinos. In a 173-page report, the House of Lords liaison committee said the government had been "too passive" in response to an explosion of digital advertising and social media influencers promoting the gambling sector. - Guardian
The UK government's EU reset summit will be delayed again unless the bloc agrees to discuss legislation that could lock British business out of parts of EU industry, government sources have said. The "Made in Europe" legislation - formally known as the Industrial Accelerator Act - is designed to curb China's increasing presence in European industry, but was not on the reset plan agreed by the former prime minister Keir Starmer and the European Commission chief, Ursula von der Leyen, in London in May 2025. - Guardian
UK drivers face paying £2.30 per litre for diesel by the end of the year if the Iran war continues to rage, analysts have warned. Global supply constraints from the Middle East conflict mean diesel pump prices could surge by another 19pc compared with current levels - surpassing the previous record set in 2022 by a margin of 31p per litre, according to Wood Mackenzie. - Telegraph
John Healey has appointed Britain's most powerful union boss to the board of the Bank of England. The Chancellor announced on Wednesday that Paul Nowak, the general secretary of the Trades Union Congress (TUC), would serve on the Bank's Court of Directors for the next four years. His appointment prompted an immediate political backlash after the Treasury insisted that Mr Nowak had "not engaged in any party political activity" in the past five years. - Telegraph
The billionaire founder of Revolut has denied owing money to a brokerage after buying a 350 million superyacht this year. Nik Storonsky has said he is not in debt to Cecil Wright & Partners (CWP), a luxury yacht broker, after the business sought commissions worth 17.5 million over claims that it arranged the deal. The yacht broker had alleged in a filing in London's High Court that Storonsky went "behind its back" to avoid paying commission on the yacht. - The Times
