(Sharecast News) - Boku announced the appointment of former Mastercard executive Peter Klein as chief commercial officer with immediate effect on Wednesday, as the mobile payments company looks to accelerate growth and expand its global network of local payment methods.

Klein was joining from Mastercard, where he helped lead its global account-to-account and cross-border payments business, and will oversee Boku's commercial and go-to-market operations.

The AIM-traded company said Klein's appointment would support its next phase of expansion as demand for local payment methods continues to grow.

Boku currently provides merchants with access to hundreds of payment methods across more than 60 countries through a single integration and said local payment methods are expected to account for more than 60% of global e-commerce transactions by 2028.

At 1447 BST, shares in Boku were down 1.21% at 97.8p.
