(Sharecast News) - EKF Diagnostics announced on Monday that it has acquired technology assets from Sweden-based Beep Insights to enhance its sports performance offering, adding real-time glucose and lactate tracking capabilities to its product suite.

The AIM-traded diagnostics group said the acquisition covered the Beep Insights software platform, an iOS and Android application that integrates data from sports performance wearables via Bluetooth with real-time biomarker tracking to provide personalised training metrics.

It said the technology would be integrated into EKF's existing Sports Performance range, including its Lactate Scout Sport handheld analyser, which was already compatible with the Beep Insights application.

The company said the addition would improve accessibility and accuracy in determining lactate thresholds, supporting athletes in optimising training outcomes.

EKF said it had been collaborating with Beep Insights and its chief executive Peter Alex to develop the integration, and following the transaction Alex would join EKF to support further development of the platform, including the application of artificial intelligence in performance training.

"Whilst working with Beep Insights we have been highly impressed with how well their data handling application seamlessly connects with our handheld Lactate Scout Sport device, enabling fast and accurate lactate threshold testing for sports performance athletes at all levels," said chief executive Gavin Jones.

"The acquisition of this technology is an exciting step forward for EKF's Sports Performance division as we look to enable athletes of all abilities access to data to drive improved training outcomes."

At 1225 BST, shares in EKF Diagnostics Holdings were down 2.56% at 23.58p.
