(Sharecast News) - EKF Diagnostics announced the signing of a three-year group purchasing agreement with Blood Centers of America on Tuesday, securing access to more than 60 independent community blood centres across the US.

The AIM-traded firm said Blood Centers of America, the largest blood supply network in the US, collects and distributes around 50% of the nation's blood supply.

Under the agreement, pricing was agreed for EKF's DiaSpect Tm hand-held haemoglobin analyser and associated consumable cuvettes, as well as for an EKF Link IT licence designed to enable paperless workflows and streamlined quality control management.

The company said the EKF Link system supports functions including haematocrit calculation, quality control management and patient data management.

EKF would also provide dedicated product training, including support for product evaluations, validation and verification activities to integrate the DiaSpect Tm platform.

Chief executive Gavin Jones said the agreement aligned with the group's five-year strategic development plan.

"We are very pleased with the early successes we are seeing as we implement our five-year strategic development plan," he said.

"In that, we identified Hemoglobin testing as the most significant growth opportunity within our point-of-care (POC) portfolio and we remain steadfast in our ambition to become number one in global POC hematology testing.

"The agreement with BCA is a significant milestone in this ambition, with the US blood bank market considered to be one of the largest addressable markets in the world."

At 1533 GMT, shares in EKF Diagnostics Holdings were down 0.46% at 25.68p.
