(Sharecast News) - GreenRoc Strategic Materials said on Thursday that preparations were advancing for its Phase III drilling programme at the Amitsoq graphite project in Greenland, while its pilot active anode material plant has produced its first spheronised graphite.
The AIM-traded company said drill rigs and associated equipment were en route from Canada to Nanortalik, which will act as the staging point for onward transport to Amitsoq. The equipment is expected to arrive around mid-June.
GreenRoc said company personnel were due to arrive in Nanortalik on 19 June to begin on-site preparations, with drill crews and other personnel expected between 23 and 26 June.
The Phase III programme is intended to upgrade the inferred mineral resource announced in January 2023, which was based on drilling completed in 2021 and 2022.
It would also gather technical information on rock strength, stability and hydrogeology to support a pre-feasibility study planned to start by the end of 2026.
Up to 12 holes were planned from four drill sites, for a total of around 2,200 metres, with the deepest hole expected to be about 285 metres.
Nanortalik, about 15 kilometres south of Amitsoq, will serve as the logistics hub. Equipment will be transferred by barge to Amitsoq and moved into position by helicopter.
GreenRoc said a geotechnical team from SLR Consulting would join the programme in July, while Dr John Arthur, who prepared the existing mineral resource estimate and has been contracted to update it, is expected to visit the site in late July.
Separately, the company said several batches of about 100 kilograms of graphite concentrate had been processed through its active anode material pilot plant, following the commissioning of micronisation and spheronisation mills in April.
Analytical results from the first 100-kilogram test batch showed a median particle diameter of 14.8 micrometres, close to the target of 15.0 micrometres, and a tap density of 0.85 grams per cubic centimetre, compared with a target of 0.9.
GreenRoc said the results were encouraging for a first test run.
The pilot plant team said it was now optimising milling parameters to achieve a narrower grain size distribution and higher tap density.
The company said it planned to hold a formal opening ceremony for the pilot plant on 2 June.
Purification equipment for the plant was expected to arrive in the second half of 2026.
GreenRoc also said it had joined the Critical Minerals Association in the UK, giving it access to a network of industry leaders and policymakers as it seeks to accelerate development of Amitsoq and a commercial active anode materials plant.
The company said management had also met EU officials at the EIT Raw Materials Summit in Brussels, including a meeting with EU Energy Commissioner Dan Jrgensen to discuss progress at Amitsoq.
Chief executive Stefan Bernstein said GreenRoc was pleased with progress on planning for the drilling programme.
"The finer details required to mount a substantial field programme of this kind are now falling into place," he said.
"In parallel, our pilot anode plant is delivering encouraging early processing data and providing a solid foundation for the further optimisation of particle size distribution and grain shape in our flowsheet."
At 1203 BST, shares in GreenRoc Strategic Minerals were up 1.67% at 3.66p.
