(Sharecast News) - Amazon.com is reportedly in talks to by artificial intelligence start-up Decart in a deal potentially valued at around $7bn.

According to the Wall Street Journal, which cited people familiar with the matter, a deal could come together soon, assuming talks don't fall apart and no other suitors emerge.

The WSJ said San Francisco-based Decart, which was founded in 2023 by three Israeli engineers, brothers Dean and Orian Leitersdorf and Moshe Shalev, is developing world models known as Lucy and Oasis that can generate and simulate real-world 3-D environments.

Decart's software makes it easier for developers to switch between different AI chips, a capability that is becoming increasingly important as companies race to secure more computing power, according to the WSJ.

The company has raised more than $400m in venture capital funding from investors including Sequoia Capital, Benchmark, and Radical Ventures, according to PitchBook, and was valued at nearly $4bn in May.
