(Sharecast News) - Imperial Brands is reportedly preparing to cut thousands of jobs in critical markets, including the US and Europe, as part of a sweeping cost-cutting drive.
According to Bloomberg, which cited people familiar with the matter, the tobacco company will begin notifying affected staff at ITG Brands - a subsidiary covering the US, the Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico - first from 19 August.
Sources told Bloomberg that the company, which employed about 25,800 staff globally at the end of 2025, has also been in contact with relevant bodies in the European Union about planned redundancies, which are subject to consultation.
It was understood the first phase of job cuts at ITG Brands will target staff working in human resources, finance, procurement and supply chain. The second phase will reduce the size of its legal, marketing, and insights and intelligence teams there, with affected employees in those areas scheduled to be notified in April and cuts to begin mid-year, sources said.
They also told Bloomberg that some of the ITG Brand roles will be outsourced to the firm's strategic partner Capgemini SE before the year end.
A spokesperson for Imperial Brands told Bloomberg: "Under our 2030 strategy, we are committed to a multiyear program of investment to become a more consumer-focused, agile, data-led and efficient business.
"Over time, the changes we are making will have an impact across our global market footprint. We will fully consult with those people affected before making any wider announcements.
"We recognise the impact on those colleagues and are committed to supporting them throughout."
