(Sharecast News) - OpenAI and Nvidia are reportedly set to invest billions of dollars in UK data centres through a partnership with London's Nscale Global.

According to Bloomberg, citing people close to the matter, OpenAI's Sam Altman and Nvidia's Jensen Huang are heading to the UK during Donald Trump's planned visit next week, when they will pledge their support for the data centre investments.

The investments are thought to be part of the UK's drive to ramp up spending on generative AI, and follow prime minister Kier Starmer's calls earlier in the year to build "AI growth zones".

OpenAI already works with Nscale via Stargate Norway, an advanced AI infrastructure project in Northern Norway announced in July. The companies said the facility will target to deliver 100,000 NVIDIA GPUs by the end of 2026.

Meanwhile, Nscale announced in January that it would invest $2.5bn in the UK's data centre industry over the next three years, having already purchased a site in Loughton, which can house up to 45,000 of the latest NVIDIA GB200 GPUs
