(Sharecast News) - Private sector employment in the US rose more than expected in September, according to figures released on Wednesday by ADP.

Employment increased by 90,000 from August, versus expectations for a 68,000 jump. Meanwhile, the total number of jobs added for August was revised to 36,000 from 38,000.

Small businesses with fewer than 50 employees added 23,000 jobs, while medium businesses with between 50 and 499 employees added 54,000 jobs. Large businesses with more than 500 employees created an additional 14,000 jobs.

The service sector added 59,000 jobs, while the goods-producing sector saw a 31,000 increase.

Base pay for private-sector workers rose 3.2% while gross pay was up 4.7% on the year.

Nela Richardson, chief economist at ADP, said: "It's a strong report. After a three-month slowdown, job creation rebounded and pay growth remained solid."
