(Sharecast News) - Asian equities closed mixed, with Japan outperforming while China and Hong Kong slipped as investors weighed surging bond yields, oil volatility and US-China geopolitical jitters.
Japan's Nikkei 225 rose 1.38% to 65,018, rebounding strongly after a threeday holiday as chip stocks benefited from AIrelated momentum. Hong Kong's Hang Seng fell 1.1% to 24,834, while China's Shanghai Composite dropped 0.39%, reflecting caution ahead of the Trump-Xi summit and lingering tradewar uncertainty.
Australia's S&P/ASX 200 slid 0.7%, touching a threemonth low amid pressure from rising global yields. South Korea's Kospi was closed for the Chuseok holiday, thinning regional trading.
Oil prices were volatile, with Brent crude hovering near $103.67, still elevated due to Middle East tensions. Bond markets remained stressed: Japan's 10year yield hit 3.075%, its highest since 1996, while the US 10year Treasury held above 5.1%, weighing on risk appetite.
