(Sharecast News) - Wall Street trading got off to a positive start on Monday as major indices tried to rebound from Friday's heavy losses.

As of 1440 BST, the Dow Jones Industrial Average was up 0.70% at 43,892.72, while the S&P 500 advanced 0.86% to 6,291.78 and the Nasdaq Composite came out of the gate 1.22% firmer at 20,901.55.

The Dow opened 304.14 points higher on Monday, a marked turnaround from heavy losses registered on Friday as a barrage of weak economic data and the announcement of a whole new set of US import tariffs weighed heavily on stocks.

Stocks were in the green at the open as investors seemed to shrug off a softer-than-expected July jobs report that raised fresh questions about the strength of the US economy heading into the autumn. Donald Trump's latest tariff overhaul also weighed on stocks, with the White House confirming a sweeping update to its so-called "reciprocal" tariff framework

As far as Monday was concerned, oil prices were in focus at the open, heading south early on Monday after OPEC+ agreed to another large output increase, with investors mulling over the possibility of a global oversupply. Brent Crude was down 0.2% at $69.53 per barrel, while West Texas Intermediate crude ticked down 0.1% to $67.27 a barrel.

Spot gold was also in focus after rising 2% to hit a one-week high in its previous session, following Friday's soft jobs report and the fading possibility of an interest rate cut by the Federal Reserve. Gold prices were up 0.34% at $3,375.31 per ounce at 1440 BST.

In the corporate space, Wayfair shares traded higher on Monday after the furniture retailer's Q2 earnings smashed Wall Street expectations, while streaming giant Spotify ticked higher after revealing it will be hiking the price of its premium individual subscriptions.

Still to come, Palantir will release its latest quarterly earnings report after the close.

On the macro front, June factory orders data will be published at 1500 BST.
