(Sharecast News) - Major indices were in the green early on Friday, with tech leading a modest rebound after the previous session's pullback triggered by a disappointing revenue update from OpenAI.

As of 1445 BST, the Dow Jones Industrial Average was up 0.24% at 51,354.67, while the S&P 500 advaned 0.37% to 7,793.94 and the Nasdaq Composite came out of the gate 0.56% stronger at 27,344.45.

The Dow opened 123.03 points higher on Friday, extending modest gains recorded in the previous session on the back of strong performance from defensive stocks.

Both the S&P 500 and Nasdaq headed south on Thursday as the AI sector came under pressure after OpenAI told investors that annualised revenues had reached $50bn at the end of September - well below the widely circulated $68bn figure last month, which a source later said had included gross revenue from partners.

However, tech stocks were firmer at the open on Friday, helped by a 2.44% jump in SpaceX after the Elon Muskled group agreed to acquire a nationwide spectrum portfolio. The move sparked concerns over heightened competition in the telecoms sector, leaving AT&T, Verizon and TMobile weaker in premarket action.

On the macro front, a preliminary reading of the University of Michigan's October consumer sentiment index will be published at 1500 BST.

In the corporate space, Delta Air Lines cut its 2026 profit outlook after missing earnings estimates for the first time in two years, citing persistently high fuel costs, though chief executive Ed Bastian said demand remained resilient. The carrier now expects fullyear adjusted earnings of $5.10 to $5.60 per share, well below July's $6.50 to $7.50 forecast, with fourthquarter guidance also coming in under analyst expectations. Delta additionally reduced its freecashflow outlook to $2.5bn, down from as much as $4bn previously.
