(Sharecast News) - Major indices were in the green early on Friday as market participants digested last month's all-important non-farm payrolls report.

As of 1500 BST, the Dow Jones Industrial Average was up 1.40% at 42,910.30, while the S&P 500 advanced 1.29% to 6,015.96 and the Nasdaq Composite came out of the gate 1.46% firmer at 19,581.01.

The Dow opened 590.56 points higher on Friday, easily reversing losses recorded in the previous session amid the very public breakdown in Donald Trump and Elon Musk's relationship.

Friday's primary focus was news that hiring in the US picked up slightly more than expected in May, according to the Department of Labor, with non-farm payrolls rising by 139,000. Last month's increase, the smallest in three months, follows a downwardly revised gain of 147,000 during April. Economists had forecast an increase of 130,000.

Average hourly earnings rose by $0.15 or 0.4% month-on-month or 3.9% on an annualised basis, while the rate of unemployment, derived from a separate survey, was steady at 4.2%.

In the corporate space, semiconductor manufacturer Broadcom posted quarterly earnings that beat on both the top and bottom lines, while shares in athleisure giant Lululemon were firmly in the red after cutting FY profit guidance as a result of the "dynamic macroenvironment" stemming from Donald Trump's ongoing trade war.

Tesla shares were in the green after recording heavy losses on Thursday amid a war of words between Elon Musk and Donald Trump that wiped $152.0bn off the carmaker's market cap.
