(Sharecast News) - Major indices were mixed early on Monday, helped by a rebound in tech after last week's sharp selloff in AIlinked names.

As of 1445 BST, the Dow Jones Industrial Average was down 0.21% at 51,893.91, while the S&P 500 advanced 0.48% at 7,695.98 and the Nasdaq Composite came out of the gate 0.99% firmer at 26,399.79.

The Dow opened 108.50 points lower on Monday, extending lossees recorded in the previous session.

Tech stocks were in focus at the open, as Intel climbed 5.34% in early action after JPMorgan upgraded the stock, while CoreWeave - which slumped over 25% last week on debt worries - recovered 2.92% at the open.

However, sentiment around the AI trade remained fragile after CNBC reported that Anthropic's Q3 revenues hit $16.8bn, up from $11.6bn in the second quarter, but the slower pace of growth raised fresh questions over how quickly the AI buildout can continue.

Oil markets were also drawing an amount of investor attention as geopolitical risks intensified as ship attacks in the Persian Gulf increased, while Ukraine and Russia exchanged strikes on energy infrastructure over the weekend, including a Ukrainian hit on an oil terminal in St Petersburg. Longerdated crude futures have begun to move higher on expectations that supply disruptions could persist well into 2027.

On the macro front, the National Association of Houseuilder's October housing market index will be released at 1500 BST.

While no major corporate earnings were slated for publication on Monday, Meta Platforms and Tesla were both scheduled to report before the end of the week.
