(Sharecast News) - Concurrent Technologies said on Monday that it has launched Kratos (32 Core), a 32-core central processing unit aimed at defence and other high-performance markets, which it said had up to 60% more processing power than the original 20-core Kratos product launched in March last year.

The AIM-traded group described Kratos (32 Core) as a "pure 32-core CPU" optimised for data processing in mission-critical C4ISR applications, and said its performance density was sufficient to displace traditional, larger rack-mount server systems.

It said the original Kratos was differentiated from the new product by a virtualised radio access network accelerator designed to enable 5G networks in the battlespace, adding that Kratos (32 Core) broadened its addressable market by "serving the defence industry with breakthrough processing capabilities" within the VPX defence standard architecture.

"Launching this product places Concurrent at the centre of the defence technology conversation and reinforcing our first-to-market reputation," said chief executive Miles Adcock.

"Neither Kratos nor Kratos (32 Core) have competitors in the market using these processors in the widely adopted VPX defence standard architecture.

"Kratos (32 Core) demonstrates our ability to push the limits of rugged embedded computing, delivering technology that enables customers to stay ahead operationally."

Adcock said the company had "already seen early interest from customers requiring maximum computing performance from a 3U VPX compliant single board computer," describing Kratos (32 Core) as a flagship product alongside the original Kratos.

At 1251 GMT, shares in Concurrent Technologies were up 2.08% at 258.25p.
