(Sharecast News) - Distibution and services giant Bunzl has bolstered its UK footprint with the acquisition of Wessex Cleaning Equipment and Janitorial Supplies, taking full ownership of the business.

Bunzl said Wessex was a longestablished distributor of cleaning and hygiene products, janitorial supplies and cleaning equipment, serving a broad customer base across multiple sectors. Wessex generated £11m in revenues for the year ended 31 March.

The FTSE 100-listed firm said the deal strengthens its position in the UK cleaning and hygiene market, expands its geographic reach and enhances its offering in both product supply and equipment sales and hire.

Chief executive Frank van Zanten said: "I am pleased to welcome Wessex to Bunzl. The business has built an excellent reputation for customer service, technical expertise and strong local relationships, and we look forward to working with the team to support the next stage of its development."

As of 1115 GMT, Bunzl shares were up 0.07% at 2,840p.
