(Sharecast News) - Samsung Electronics on Thursday guided to a near-ninefold increase in operating profits in the third quarter, with the predicted quarterly total more than double what the memory chipmaker earned in 2025 - though numbers still came up short of analysts' projections.

The South Korean tech giant said it expects to earn a record KRW107.4trn ($80.2bn) in consolidated operating profit over the third quarter, up from just KRW12.2trn in the third quarter of 2025.

That's also more than twice the amount earned in the second quarter (KRW89.5trn), as the company reaps the rewards of the global memory chip shortage amid rampant growth in the AI infrastructure space.

Sales, meanwhile, are tipped to be KRW195trn, up from KRW86.1trn the year before and the KRW171.5 seen in the second quarter. However, that still missed the consensus forecast of KRW207trn.

Samsung shares finished 2.4% lower at KRW262,000 in Seoul, after having more than doubled over the year to date.
