Buying a house can be stressful.

Add in the complexities of a foreign language and purchase process – the idea of buying abroad can be a real headache.

Then there’s the currency transfer to consider. You need to make sure the payment is made on time while getting a great exchange rate.

We spoke to one of our clients, Linda Glover from Yorkshire, about her experience of sending money to France to help her daughter buy a property.

Why were you looking to make an international payment?

My husband and I have a flat in Paris which our daughter has been living in. We have made a number of transfers to France in the past, mostly on an ad-hoc basis. Our daughter moved from Paris to Marseilles and last summer she was looking to buy a house, which we wanted to help with.

What problems have you experienced in the past?

We have previously experienced issues receiving the money in France. Normally the payments are sent okay but we get constant questions from the French side and they have repeatedly bounced the payments back.

When we first started to make international payments we used our bank but the service stopped without notice. At the time we had accounts with you and we were impressed with the service we had received. So we decided to use your currency service to make our payments to France.

How did the HL Currency Service help?

I was particularly nervous given our experience of bounced payments in the past, especially as we had a deadline to meet for the house purchase. However, your staff were very reassuring and checked that everything had gone in okay. That really took the stress away and gave me the security of knowing everything was in hand.

We really appreciate the human touch that you get with the HL Currency Service. Your staff are always so courteous and much more empowered to make decisions and sensible arrangements with clients than most other organisations. You cannot underestimate how much people appreciate great service.

My husband is deaf which can make it difficult when we have to contact banks and utility companies. They can be a nightmare. However, we don’t get that with you. Your process is simple and makes it easy for me to discuss our accounts.

We also like the ability to move money from our other HL accounts which means we don’t have to keep it in different places.
