Matt is the Content Editor within HL’s Editorial team which is responsible for our flagship Investment Times magazine, as well as articles and regular topical feature pages. He first joined HL in 2017, starting out on the Investment Helpdesk before then becoming a Senior within the Investment Helpdesk and later moving to the role of Content Editor.

Matt graduated from Cardiff University with a degree in Business Management and holds the Investment Management Certificate.

Nadeem heads up HL’s Editorial team, overseeing our flagship Investment Times magazine, as well as articles and regular topical feature pages. He first joined HL in 2016, spending time on the Investment Helpdesk in both client-facing and team-management roles. Interests span fund management, equity markets and personal financial planning.

Nadeem graduated with a degree in Fund Management and holds the Investment Management Certificate, as well as certificates in securities and level 1 of the CFA program.

Michelle is a pensions and retirement planning specialist with over 10 years’ experience in the industry. She leads our marketing strategy for pensions working closely with our proposition, PR and analyst teams and covers a broad spectrum of topics, including pension regulation, financial planning and retirement income options.

She is passionate about making pensions and retirement planning more engaging. Her goal is to empower people to take control of their savings and investments so they can make decisions with confidence, and retire on their own terms.

Michelle has a distinction-level Diploma in Professional Marketing with the Chartered Institute of Marketing. She also holds a degree in Environmental Science & Management and is studying towards a Diploma in Regulated Financial Planning.

Sarah joined Hargreaves Lansdown in 2017, after 14 years as a financial journalist. She worked for the likes of Bloomberg and Moneywise before going freelance – spending almost a decade writing for everyone from The Guardian to specialist investment and pension titles.

Sarah has a History degree from the University of Birmingham.

Areas of expertise include savings and financial planning, but also cover everything from tax to budgeting and spending. Sarah's unique life experience, from divorce and single parenting to bereavement and caring for an aging parent, mean she has more than just a theoretical understanding of the life-changing importance of financial planning.

Alana started at HL back in 2014, having achieved a First Class Honours Degree and a Masters Degree in Philosophy and Psychology. She has experience on our Pensions, Investment and Advisory helpdesks, and is an expert in all that HL has to offer.

Her true calling has always been pensions and retirement. In 2017, Alana joined our team of writers to focus on helping clients through their pensions saving and retirement journey.

Alana is a big part of life here at HL and goes the extra mile to support her colleagues. As well as being a core member of our Diversity and Inclusivity networks, Alana acts as a wellbeing champion and is a qualified mental health first aider. Alana has completed the R01 Financial Services, regulation and ethics unit with the Chartered Insurance Institute, forming part of a Diploma in Regulated Financial Planning.

Chris was co-architect of our new Learn section, offering a hub of educational pages for clients on topics ranging from investing behaviours to compounding and managing risk.

Laura joined HL in 2020 after 7 years of writing stock market commentary in the US and has always been interested in making successful investing behaviour more accessible. She holds a degree in Finance and is currently studying for her Investment Management Certificate qualification.

He joined HL in 2016 after four years working in investor relations and financial PR. He is a Chartered Financial Analyst Charterholder and also holds the Investment Management Certificate.

Areas of particular expertise include financial services, oil & gas and pharmaceuticals.

Sophie is an Equity Analyst on the share research team, providing research and regular articles on a selection of individual companies and wider sectors. Sophie’s specialities are Retail, Fast Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG), Aerospace & Defence as well as a few of the big tech names including Facebook and Apple.

Sophie first joined HL at the beginning of 2017 where she worked on Trade Support, supporting our stockbrokers and dealing operations. Here she gained invaluable insight into the operational side of markets and trading, before joining Share Research in summer 2018. She credits her interest in the world of finance and investing to a year spent studying at the University of Hong Kong.

Sophie holds the Investment Management Certificate, and has also passed the Securities component of the CISI Investment Advice Diploma. She’s currently working towards the CFA’s Certificate in ESG Investing.

William joined HL in 2017 after graduating from University of Oxford with a degree in Politics, Philosophy and Economics.

Areas of special expertise include the Housebuilding, General Insurance and Telecoms sectors.

Joseph Hill

Skills, competence and experience:

Joseph joined HL in 2017 as part of our graduate scheme, before joining the Research team in August 2019. He is part of the team that analyses and selects funds for the Wealth Shortlist. His sector responsibilities are Bonds and North America equities.

He has a keen interest in global economics and how issues such as fiscal and monetary policy can impact our clients’ investments. Joseph holds the Diploma in Regulated Financial Planning, the Investment Management Certificate and is currently undertaking the CFA programme.

Henry joined HL in December 2020 and is responsible for the UK small and mid-sized companies sectors, and Global funds.

Henry joined HL from chartered financial planners Forrester-Hyde where he provided fund research, due diligence and analysis for their investment portfolios.

As well as conducting fund analysis at Forrester-Hyde, Henry also sat on the firm’s Investment Committee and produced client updates on funds and portfolios. Henry joined Forrester-Hyde in 2019, after graduating from the University of East Anglia with a first-class degree in Economics.

Josef joined HL in 2016 after obtaining a first-class degree in Business and Management from the University of the West of England. He joined the Research team in July 2020 and is responsible for analysing funds and investment trusts in the Japan, Technology & Telecoms, Property and Specialist sectors.

He has a particular interest in Japanese culture and is passionate about sustainable and ethical investing and how this can impact our clients. Josef has completed the Investment Management Certificate.

Kate is a Senior Investment Analyst at HL, and responsible for the Asian, emerging markets and European fund sectors. As a member of the Senior Research Team she also provides oversight and challenge to fund selection across all sectors on the Wealth Shortlist, and votes on all proposals. She’s also involved in compiling investment portfolios for HL's advisory team, and is a senior member of the Investment department.

Kate has eleven years' experience in financial services and joined our investment research team in 2011. She has a first-class degree in Business Studies and has completed the Investment Management Certificate.

Tom Mills

Skills, competence and experience:

Tom is a Senior Investment Analyst at HL, and responsible for the mixed asset sectors, as well as providing support for fixed income analysis. Tom has 14 years of financial services experience including 12 years’ fund research experience.

Prior to joining HL in December 2020, he spent seven years at Australian wealth management group BT where he conducted research and oversight of funds across asset classes, including equity, fixed income, multi-asset, property, infrastructure, and alternatives.

Before BT, Tom spent six years at Standard & Poor’s, joining its index business before moving to its fund research area. Tom is a Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst.

Dominic Rowles

Dominic joined HL in June 2014 after studying economics at university. He’s part of the team responsible for analysing and proposing funds for the Wealth Shortlist and writing analysis for HL clients. He’s responsible for the Responsible Investment and UK Growth sectors.

He’s passionate about ESG and sustainability, and enjoys learning from fund managers and other industry experts who are dedicated to making the world a cleaner, greener place and passing that knowledge on to our clients. Dominic works with different parts of the business, such as HL Fund Managers, advice and workplace, to push the ESG agenda. Dominic holds the Investment Management Certificate.

Skills, competence and experience:

Emma is Head of Investment Analysis. She heads up the Research team who select funds for the Wealth Shortlist and provide analysis across funds and investment trusts for HL clients. Emma is responsible for developing and implementing the investment process for the Wealth Shortlist. She votes on proposals across all fund sectors.

Emma also leads the Senior Research Team, which reviews the Shortlist funds against parameters designed to flag potential risks to clients. She reports to the Distribution Investment Oversight Committee.

Emma joined HL in April 2019 from Morningstar where she provided investment news, views and analysis to investors across the UK, Australia, Canada and India. Prior to joining Morningstar in July 2013 Emma spent six years as a financial journalist at the Daily and Sunday Telegraph.

Alexander Watkins

Skills, competence and experience:

Alex joined HL in 2018 after studying a master’s degree in Geology at Southampton University. He joined the research team in July 2020 as Passive Investment Analyst, and is responsible for analysing tracker funds and ETFs for HL clients. He proposes passive fund additions and removals to Wealth Shortlist and monitors existing selections.

Alex has a keen interest in understanding global markets and enjoys learning from fund managers and industry professionals who can provide new insight to products and markets. He’s currently undertaking the CFA programme.
