Wealth Shortlist funds update: BNY Mellon Real Return and BNY Mellon Sustainable Real Return

BNY Mellon has announced tragic news regarding the sudden passing of Suzanne Hutchins.

Suzanne was Head of the Real Return team at Newton Investment Management Limited (Newton). Newton are owned by BNY Mellon and run both the Real Return and Sustainable Real Return funds that are on our Wealth Shortlist of recommended funds.

Suzanne had been a key member of the team since 2010 and in addition to her investment responsibilities, she took on people management at the start of 2018. She was also an important member of the wider investment business at Newton.

Our thoughts are with her family and colleagues at this very difficult time.

We know the Real Return team well and hold them in high regard. That being said, the loss of a key individual such as Suzanne could impact how the funds are managed going forward.

We will therefore meet with the team at the earliest opportunity, once they have had a chance to process what has happened and consider the implications for the funds. We expect this will be in early 2023 given the circumstances and that it may take some time for them to be able to provide a clear plan regarding any changes to the team or funds going forward.

In the meantime, we will continue to monitor the funds and will provide a further update once available.
