(Sharecast News) - Greatland Resources announced the appointment of Nick Strong as chief operating officer on Wednesday, effective 5 October, with responsibility for the Telfer and Havieron operations.

Strong joins from Northern Star Resources and has more than 25 years' mining experience, having also held senior roles at Rio Tinto and Newcrest Mining.

The company also said Otto Richter would move from acting chief operating officer to the newly created role of chief technical officer when Strong joins.

Managing director Shaun Day said Strong was "very well placed to lead our operations and substantial growth projects", while thanking Richter for his "tremendous work in leading Greatland's operations as acting COO" and highlighting his new role in advancing the group's long-term growth strategy.

At 1205 BST, shares in Greatland Resources were down 5.28% at 556.5p.
