(Sharecast News) - Caledonia Mining announced the appointment of Ross Jerrard as its new chief financial officer on Wednesday, succeeding Chester Goodburn, who would step down on 24 March after the publication of the company's full-year results.

The AIM-traded firm said Goodburn, who had served as CFO since July 2022, would remain on a consultancy basis for a brief transition period.

It said Jerrard would bring extensive experience in financial leadership, having served as CFO of Centamin from 2016 until its $2.5bn acquisition by AngloGold Ashanti in November last year.

Centamin, previously a FTSE 250-listed miner, operated the Sukari gold mine in Egypt -one of the world's largest gold producers.

Jerrard is a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Australia and New Zealand, as well as the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Zimbabwe.

His appointment would be subject to standard checks, and would take effect immediately upon Goodburn's departure.

"Chester has made a substantial contribution to Caledonia's growth since he joined us in 2014, the last two-and-a-half years as CFO," said chief executive officer Mark Learmonth.

"Along with the board and his colleagues, I thank him for his time at Caledonia and we wish him well in his future endeavours."

Learmonth added that he was "pleased to welcome" Jerrard to Caledonia.

"He brings a depth and breadth of experience which will be invaluable to Caledonia as we advance our strategy to become a mid-tier, Zimbabwe-focussed gold producer."

At 1255 GMT, shares in Caledonia Mining Corporation were down 0.84% at 823p.
